Making use of that big hole in your yard...

The expense of owning and operating a swimming pool demands that you either make the best use of your investment or fill it with dirt.

The heating requirements for open pools are very different from screened pools. The amount of the sun's energy that is absorbed and retained by a pool with full exposure to the sun usually results in about 7-9 Deg. F greater side by side temperature than a screened pool under the same conditions.
A screened pool typically has a comfortable swim season of 3-4 months of the year while an open pool has as much as 5-6 months of temperatures above 80 Deg. F.

The amount of heat required is substantially greater for a screened pool than an open pool, resulting in greater operating costs or initial expenditures in solar equipment.

A screen enclosure keeps the bugs and wildlife out of the pool area, abundant in both categories in Central Florida, but in effect acts like an umbrella with holes in it in terms of blocking heat.
